Just finished packing, unpacking, checking, and then packing once more. I’m pretty, quite, nearly, finally sure that I’ve got everything. The trailer and bike have been disassembled and wrapped up snuggly. Protein supplement and salts are neatly portioned in zip lock bags- looking worryingly like another white powder that helps you go for longer
Now all there is to do is wait until the alarm clock buzzes to life at the ungodly hour of 4.45am.
When the adventure begins.
It feels a little bit like the night before Christmas as the house is so quiet- not a creature is stirring, not even a mouse. The rest of my family sleeps soundly as I sit up unable to sleep, with only the washing machine for company.
Actually, on second thoughts it’s more like the night before a first day at school/college/a new job.
A pregnant anticipation, equal parts trepidation and excitement. When I just want to get cracking. An imaginary index finger pushes the hands on the clock face in my head.
The next time I write it will be from Aswan.
